Our Bay Point Elementary PTA Nominating Committee (Miles Baker, Amber Cain, and Lynn Gordan) has been busy this past month recruiting candidates to hold PTA Officer and Committee Chair positions for the 2016-2017 school year.

Why may you ask is this so important?

As you’ve seen, our PTA coordinates numerous events and activities at our school that are aimed at assisting in the learning process and enriching the lives of our students and families. For example, this year alone we organized 9 family events (e.g., Fall Festival, Publix Math Night, Fiesta Night, Color Run, Science Fair Night), coordinated 2 programs (Math Superstars, Reflections), held two fundraisers, and showed appreciation for our hardworking teachers/staff on several occasions by planning breakfasts and lunches. We also provided support for our school in the form of a fun Winter Holidays-Around-the-World Celebration, mental math curriculum tools, Panther Bucks rewards program, visit by a renowned author, student planners, 1st grade veggie garden, and much more!

In keeping with these traditions for next year, we wish to enlist the talents of as many Bay Point Elementary parents, teachers, and family members, representing a diverse array of ethnic, cultural, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds, as possible. It is this diversity that is essential to bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm to our group and to ensure that our organization best serves the needs of our students and families.

We invite you to join us for our final PTA General Association Meeting on Tuesday, May 17th at 5:45pm in the cafeteria. At this time, we will present a brief overview of our activities this year and will conduct elections for next year’s PTA board. After this meeting, we encourage you to attend the Family Grade Level Articulation Night being offered by our school. Here, you can find out what you can expect for your child in their upcoming school year and how you can support them over the summer.

We want this week to be a special one where every teacher feels appreciation and gratitude for teaching and instructing our children. Every day this week, teachers will enjoy a catered lunch courtesy of several bay area restaurants. Teachers will also receive gift cards from PTA as a small token of appreciation for all that they do!

Are you wondering how you can help? If so, here are just a few ideas:

**Encourage your student to write a “thank you” letter to their teacher. Deliver a copy of this letter to our PTA mailbox located in the front office, and we’ll read it on the BPE News.

** Drop off a yummy breakfast or dessert item in the front office for us to share with teachers any day this week.

**Donate a service, gift, or gift card to include in our raffle drawings, which will be held every morning during the BPE News.

We are fortunate to have such outstanding teachers at Bay Point Elementary. Let’s show them our love!

Join us this Thursday (April 28th) from 6-8pm in the cafeteria for our annual Science Fair Open House.

Aside from viewing all the wonderful Science Fair projects that our students have been working hard to complete, students will have fun participating in lots of hands-on science activities that are absolutely FREE! Upon arrival, students should check-in at our registration table to receive their Mission Badge and to sign up for our free raffle drawings.

Speaking of the raffle, we have lots of great prizes to give away thanks to donations from these awesome bay area science organizations:

Our Family Fun & Color Run event is this Friday (April 15th) from 5:30-7:30pm on the school’s PE field. We hope that you’re getting excited. We certainly are! There will be lots of free activities to enjoy, including a bounce house, crafts, sports inflatable, face painting, and fitness activities. We’ll also have several food vendors for when you get hungry and free raffle drawings for students with lots of terrific prizes donated by area health/fitness businesses and organizations.

The Color Run itself will begin at 6:15pm. Students that participated in our recent Color-a-thon fundraiser are already registered for the run and just need to check-in that night to get their wristband. Otherwise, the cost is $10 for the first student and $5 for each additional family member. Please remember that we can accept cash or checks only on the night of the event. Also, proceeds from this fundraiser and event will benefit PTA programs, events, and other activities. What better way to support our school than by promoting health and fitness!!!

Also taking place this Friday is the monthly All Pro Dad’s breakfast. Dads are invited to join their children for a wonderful breakfast and learning event with group sponsor Mr. Angulo. Please RSVP (www.AllProDad.com/3578) no later than the Thursday, if you plan to attend this event.

The Science Fair Open House is also coming up soon, and will take place on Thursday, April 28th from 6-8pm in the cafeteria. Classroom science projects for grades K-2nd and individual science projects for grades 3rd-5th will be on display. Chick-fil-a will be there, if you would like to purchase dinner. Hands-on science activities centered on this year’s theme (‘Ride the Tide’) will be offered. Volunteers from Boyd Hill Nature Park and Friends of Weedon Island will bring some live critters to ooh and awe over. Teachers and staff from Bay Point Middle School will be also be there and always offer an exciting science activity. Come see for yourself why BPE is proud to be a Science Magnet school!

Congratulations families on a successful Color-A-thon fundraising experience. PTA wants to thank you for all your support. Just a friendly reminder, fundraising envelopes and money will be collected inside the main car line gate on Tuesday (March 29th) before school during drop-off (8:05-8:30am). Please be sure to fill out your child’s envelope completely. Any checks should be made payable to ‘BPE-PTA’.

Is everybody enjoying their Spring Break? I hope so! Whether you’re out-of-town at some exotic location or here in St. Pete, I hope you all find time to relax and unwind with your families this week.

Just a quick reminder about our ongoing Color-a-thon Fundraiser, we are already at the midway point and headed into the home stretch. If you haven’t yet registered online (http://register.schoolathon.org), it’s not too late! By registering you can build your student’s own Personal Donation Website. You will be able to upload a message, picture and will receive an email link to the site to send to family and friends. If you’d prefer to collect donations in person, then remember we accept cash and checks (made payable to ‘BPE-PTA’) as well. Donation envelopes and money will be collected next Tuesday (March 29th) during drop-off.

Greetings Bay Point Elementary Families,

PTA is excited to announce that our Spring ‘Color-a-thon’ Fundraiser has officially begun! This is our final fundraiser for the year and is sure to be a fun one! Proceeds will provide much needed support for our events, programs and other activities and will benefit every student and teacher at our school.

Yesterday, your child should have received a fundraising envelope in their backpacks. We ask that you please read the information carefully and help support your child in their efforts to collect donations from family and friends.

We have lots of exciting prizes to give away, including a Color-a-thon Blinky Badge just for registering on-line (http://shop.schoolathon.org/182746) and receiving your first donation by Friday. Students may turn in their Instant Reward Coupons this week inside the main car line gate during drop-off (8:05-8:30am) to receive this cool prize. Remember, the more donations your child collects, the more fun prizes they can earn. For example,

  • Collect $10 in donations and they can participate in the Color Run.
  • Collect $30 and they can participate in the run AND they will also get a Color-a-thon t-shirt, race bag and color dye pack for use at the Color Blast After Party!

The Color Run will take place on Friday, April 15th (5:30-7:30pm) at the school as part of our first ever Family Fun & Color Run event. We are so excited about this event, which will also include lots of FREE activities for all to enjoy. There will be a DJ, bounce house, obstacle course, crafts, face painting, Health & Fitness Expo, and more!

We hope this fun, fitness-based event will not only raise money for our school, but will also provide a healthy opportunity for our students and their families.

Did everyone enjoy Fiesta Night last month? We hope that you walked away having learned something new about our school’s Spanish program. Thanks to our fabulous Spanish team (Sra. Jakubik, Ms. Rodriguez, and Sra. Van Deilen) for putting together the beautiful displays and video. We also want to give a shout out to Pollo Tropical for giving us a generous discount on the tasty food. Lastly, thanks to all our wonderful volunteers, especially those who stepped up on a moment’s notice to lend a helping hand. I know I say this over and over, but we simply cannot do these events without YOU!

PTA has been very busy these past few weeks continuing to help support our school. We provided cookies and drinks for families that attended FSA Parent Night. We sponsored author William Durbin’s visit to BPE last Thursday. Mr. Durbin led a highly engaging writing workshop for our 4th and 5th grade students to inspire them before this week’s State Writing Assessment. Speaking of Statewide assessments, did you know that PTA will deliver over 1,700 pretzel packs and peppermints to 3rd-5th grade classrooms this week? These will provide nourishment and brain boosts for students during testing over the next few months.

We have two upcoming events/activities we want to remind you about:

• Our Read-Across-America-Day breakfast is this Wednesday (March 2nd) between 7:30-8:15am in the cafeteria. PTA and Ms. Parker (media specialist) have teamed up to organize this special event. Please join us that morning as we celebrate reading and Dr. Seuss’s birthday while enjoying some yummy green eggs and ham and reading some books. We will hold a brief PTA General Meeting during this time to update families on our activities and vote on our proposed Nominating Committee. This committee will identify those interested in serving on the ‘16/’17 PTA Board.

• Don’t forget that this week is also Casual Friday when students get to dress out of uniform and PTA will be out at the main car line gate during drop-off selling t-shirts (long- and short-sleeved), zippered sweatjackets, and other BPE merchandise (magnets, tervis tumblers). Just a friendly reminder that we accept cash and checks only.

Bay Point Elementary PTA is organizing a Pi Day event. You may already be a member of PTA, and I say – thank you! But if you are not, you can join today! You will NOT be obligated to come to PTA meetings or hold an office. We can keep you informed about the happenings around campus through email, website, or Facebook. We can also share with you how your dollars are being used to meet the needs of your children while they are in school. Being a PTA member also comes with great benefits, including 50% off tickets to Legoland Florida and you will receive a special Fundsaver discount card to save big at participating stores and restaurants.
